Dr. Bob Kirby
Dr. Kirby is no stranger to southern West Virginia, as he is a native of Mullens, W.V., and a graduate of Marshall University, class of 1971. After a 30-plus year career in education, men's apparel, and real estate, Bob answered God’s call to ministry in 2002, and along with his wife, Chris, have served God in churches in four annual conferences of the United Methodist Church prior to his appointment to United Methodist Temple.
Dr. Kirby is a certified Transitional Intentional Interim Ministry Specialist and is a Professional Certified Coach, working with individuals, groups, and organizations.
Director of Music Ministry
Daniel was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent his childhood in various communities because of his family being transferred to various states. He spent early life in Fort Wayne, Indiana; middle school years in Grand Blanc, Michigan and high school years in Hurricane, WV. He is a graduate of Marshall University with a BA in Music Education. He received his Master’s Degree from Scarritt Graduate College in Church Music and organ performance. He has played many organ concerts throughout the US and Eastern Europe, and won several national and regional organ competitions. He is also an arranger and composer as well. He and his wife Tammy have one son, Luke. Daniel has been the Minister of Music at UMT since 1989. He enjoys the outdoors and golf.
Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries, and Community Outreach
Michelle grew up in Meadville, PA and graduated from Calvary Baptist Christian Academy. She went to upstate NY for college and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Religious Education from Davis College and eventually a Master's degree in Strategic Leadership from Life Pacific University in San Demas, CA. She has lived in Southern California for the past 15 years, where she served as a Student Ministries Pastor. Michelle has been married to the love of her life, Jerry, for 25 years now, and they enjoy traveling, watching movies, eating ethnic foods, and hiking. She is very excited to serve the wonderful people of UMT and join what God is already doing here.
Director of Children's Ministry
Christi was born and raised in Beckley, WV. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1996. Christi studied Travel and Tourism for 3 years at Concord University. Since the age of 19 she has worked in many different education settings. She is married to Jeff Meador and they have 4 kids - Chiana(20), Andrew (18), Evan (16), and Bella (10). They have two dogs, Sassy & Lucy. Christi is also a Behavior Disorder Aide at Beckley Elementary. Previously, she taught Conservation Education in 6 counties for 13 years. Growing up she was very active in her youth group and went on many mission trips with World Changers. Christi enjoys kickboxing and all outdoor activities especially hiking, swimming, and volleyball.
Administrative Assistant UMT & The Place
Joyce Lovell is a native of Greenbrier County where she was a resident for 47 years before moving to Beckley. She is a 1973 graduate of Greenbrier East High School, a graduate from WV Career College in Charleston, WV (Executive Secretarial Degree) and completed several courses in computers, management, and business since then. Joyce is married to Pat Lovell, a life-long resident of Beckley. Joyce has one grown daughter, Stephanie, of Clintonville; 2-grandchildren, Alexis and Chandler; one step-daughter, Crystal, of Columbus, OH and 3 step-grandchildren, Trent, Kinsley, and Payton; and one step-son, Patrick of Daniels. Joyce has always been an active member of her church where she grew up and is thrilled to now be a part of the UMT Staff.
Director of The Place
Joe was born in Oceanside, California, but has lived in West Virginia since 1978. He graduated from Appalachian Bible College with a BA in Bible & Theology and Elementary Education. He later received his ThB from Appalachian Bible College with Bible & Theology, Elementary Education and Youth Ministries Programming. Joe has served as a Christian school faculty member and worked in the hospitality & hotel industry for twenty-six years. Joe enjoys listening to music, Sci-Fi, and spending time with his three rescue cats - Felix, Kazoo & Oscar.
Director of Facilities Management & Campus Supervisor
David was born in Fayette County, WV, where he lived for thirty-nine years before moving to the Raleigh County community of Prosperity. He is a 1980 graduate of Midland Trail High School. He attended Fayette Plateau Vocational-Technical Center where he completed a number of courses in the building trade industry. David married his wife, Kelli, in February of 2001. He is the step-father of Kelli's two daughters, Tiffany and Amanda. He is the step-grandfather to Freya, Alyssa, Kyleigh, and Kaydan. David enjoys going to the theater to watch family-oriented movies, live music shows, and live dramas. He & Kelli like spending time at the beach. He has been part of the UMT staff since 2003.
