Senior Pastor Steve Hamrick
Steve is a 1982 graduate of Princeton High School, 1986 graduate of Concord College (BSBA – concentration in accounting), and a 2005 graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity). He grew up in Princeton, WV and worked as a Certified Public Accountant in Princeton for nearly 17 years before going to seminary. Steve has been serving as a pastor in WV since 2005. He and his wife Paula have a grown daughter, April, two horses, two cats and one husky named Kila. Steve enjoys the outdoors and loves to hunt, fish, golf, and travel.
Director of Music Ministry
Daniel was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent his childhood in various communities because of his family being transferred to various states. He spent early life in Fort Wayne, Indiana; middle school years in Grand Blanc, Michigan and high school years in Hurricane, WV. He is a graduate of Marshall University with a BA in Music Education. He received his Master’s Degree from Scarritt Graduate College in Church Music and organ performance. He has played many organ concerts throughout the US and Eastern Europe, and won several national and regional organ competitions. He is also an arranger and composer as well. He and his wife Tammy have one son, Luke. Daniel has been the Minister of Music at UMT since 1989. He enjoys the outdoors and golf.
Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries, and Community Outreach
Michelle grew up in Meadville, PA and graduated from Calvary Baptist Christian Academy. She went to upstate NY for college and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Religious Education from Davis College and eventually a Master's degree in Strategic Leadership from Life Pacific University in San Demas, CA. She has lived in Southern California for the past 15 years, where she served as a Student Ministries Pastor. Michelle has been married to the love of her life, Jerry, for 24 years now, and they enjoy traveling, watching movies, eating ethnic foods, and hiking. She is very excited to serve the wonderful people of UMT and join what God is already doing here.
UMT Administrative Assistant
Sheila is a native of Beckley who graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1983 where she concentrated on business/secretarial classes. She received her Associate in Computer Science from Beckley College. Her gifts of hospitality and organization, as well as her secretarial skills, have served her well over the years and brought her back to Beckley and to United Methodist Temple in 2007 as the Administrative Assistant. Sheila has one son, Patrick. She enjoys cooking, especially trying new recipes, and spending time with family and friends. She likes to travel and her dream vacation is an Alaskan cruise.
Director of The Place
Joe was born in Oceanside, California, but has lived in West Virginia since 1978. He graduated from Appalachian Bible College with a BA in Bible & Theology and Elementary Education. He later received his ThB from Appalachian Bible College with Bible & Theology, Elementary Education and Youth Ministries Programming. Joe has served as a Christian school faculty member and worked in the hospitality & hotel industry for twenty-six years. Joe enjoys listening to music, Sci-Fi, and spending time with his three rescue cats.
"The Place" Administrative Assistant
Joyce Lovell is a native of Greenbrier County where she was a resident for 47 years before moving to Beckley. She is a 1973 graduate of Greenbrier East High School, a graduate from WV Career College in Charleston, WV (Executive Secretarial Degree) and completed several courses in computers, management, and business since then. Joyce is married to Pat Lovell, a life-long resident of Beckley. Joyce has one grown daughter, Stephanie, of Clintonville; 2-grandchildren, Alexis and Chandler; one step-daughter, Crystal, of Columbus, OH and 3 step-grandchildren, Trent, Kinsley, and Payton; and one step-son, Patrick of Daniels. Joyce has always been an active member of her church where she grew up and is thrilled to now be a part of the UMT Staff
Worship Leader at The Place
William Lawrence was born in Beckley, WV. He graduated from Shady Spring High School in 1997. Will attended Alderson-Broaddus College where he studied Music and also Computer Science. Will married his wife, Kathy, in August of 1998. They adopted their son, Jacob, in 2006. Will enjoys music, cooking, spending time with his family, camping, and traveling. His favorite place to travel is Disney World. In addition to serving as the music leader for The Place, Will and his wife direct a summer camp for foster children. Will also recently joined a southern gospel quartet. Will traveled to Uganda as part of a mission team in January, 2020. He joined the staff at UMT shortly after his return to the U.S.
Director of Children's Ministry
Christi was born and raised in Beckley, WV. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1996. Christi studied Travel and Tourism for 3 years at Concord University. Since the age of 19 she has worked in many different education settings. She is married to Jeff Meador and they have 4 kids - Chiana(20), Andrew (18), Evan (16), and Bella (10). They have two dogs, Sassy & Lucy. Christi is also a Behavior Disorder Aide at Beckley Elementary. Previously, she taught Conservation Education in 6 counties for 13 years. Growing up she was very active in her youth group and went on many mission trips with World Changers. Christi enjoys kickboxing and all outdoor activities especially hiking, swimming, and volleyball.
